The Priority Project

About

The Priority Project (TPP) is an initiative that supports women who have experienced domestic and family violence to access safe, stable housing in the private rental market. The project works by inviting property investors to consider and prioritise suitable women on a Priority Register, either before or alongside other rental applicants. This video gives an overview of TPP.

Women choosing to be part of The Salvation Army’s TPP Register can also be referred to Mission Australia’s Register. Mission Australia and The Salvation Army founded TPP alongside industry partners and work collaboratively. You can read more about the development of the project here.

Who we assist

Women and women-led families who have experienced domestic and family violence.

Eligibility criteria for women looking for housing

1. Women are supported by a Housing and/or Domestic and Family Violence Service and are eligible to receive continuity of care throughout their tenancy by the service.

A woman can choose when case management support is no longer required.

2. Women applying have enough income to afford weekly payments. This generally means women can afford to spend 30–40 per cent of their income on rent.

3. Women are ready and able to apply for properties as they become available on the register, with assistance from their case manager if needed (ability to pay bond, identification and proof of income). This is important due to the time-sensitive nature of private rental listings.

(Please reach out if you are otherwise eligible but have no service in place and you can be connected to an appropriate service.)

Referral process

Eligible women or their case managers can complete this (Form to add a woman to TPP Register – Fill out form) online form or contact The Priority Project.

Property managers and landlords interested in listing properties on the register can complete this form (Form to add a Property to TPP Register – Fill out form) or get in contact directly.
