Make a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

Interested in sleeping out for homelessness?

Each night, thousands of people across Australia sleep in unsafe and inhospitable spaces — in cars, tents or even out in the open — because they have nowhere else to go. You can help change that by participating in the Salvos Sleepout and raising money for The Salvation Army’s homelessness services who help nearly 40,000 people each year.

What is a Salvos Sleepout?

The Salvos Sleepout is an event that highlights the issue of homelessness in Australia and encourages the community to show they care.

It involves spending a night sleeping out in the open with limited comforts. While sleeping outside and exposed to the elements, you will learn more about, and begin to understand, the challenges faced by those who sleep rough daily.

The Salvos Sleepout is hosted in different locations around Australia and times vary for each location. In 2026, the Salvos Sleepout will be held in Brisbane (Queensland), and Launceston and Hobart (Tasmania). See the event sites linked below for specific information.

Who can join the Salvos Sleepout?

If you are passionate about ending homelessness and supporting those doing it tough — we need you. By registering for the Salvos Sleepout, you will help raise much needed funds to help Aussies facing homelessness get the support they need.

How does it work?

You can register as an individual or as part of a team for this year's Salvos Sleepout in your chosen location. We encourage you to share the event with your family, friends and colleagues, asking them to support your efforts by donating or fundraising in any way they can.

Giving up your comfortable bed for the night and sleeping out in the open — whether it's cold, windy or rainy — is a good reason for people to support your fundraising efforts.

On the night of the sleepout, you will bring your own sleeping bag and prepare for a chilly night’s sleep. The Salvation Army's homelessness team members will talk to you about the realities of homelessness, helping you understand more about people's challenges and how the Salvos help.

How much does it cost to join a Salvos Sleepout?

Entry details differ for each location. See event websites below for more details.

As a result of events often out of their control, an increasing number of women are being forced to choose between living in an unsafe home or homelessness.

Your support of the Salvos Sleepout can help them find safety and freedom again.
