People looking on at flood waters.

As the people of Townsville and surrounding communities of north Queensland brace for what the Bureau of Meteorology is advising to be a ‘significant and protracted event’ and predicted to continue for the coming weeks, The Salvation Army is standing alongside.

Right now, hundreds of people have evacuated their homes, leaving with the belongings they could carry. They are left waiting anxiously in evacuation centres as the flood waters rise, only able to hope that their homes are safe.

The Salvation Army Emergency Services team (SAES) are supporting at evacuation centres by providing meals, refreshments and emotional support as the community faces isolation with road closures, no fresh drinking water and power outages. We are also supporting the emergency response teams to ensure they are provided with regular meals and refreshments as they continue their critical work in keeping the community safe.

Our teams will remain engaged and are supporting the Queensland and local governments as the true toll of this disaster begins to unfold.

Please make a generous donation now, to support people and families left devasted from the Queensland floods.

PHASE 1 – IN ACTION NOW
Your Salvos action begins on the front line. Where people need help now simply to survive. Meals and refreshments for emergency workers. Emotional care for those challenged to cope.

PHASE 2
In the weeks straight after this disaster, you will be there for the clean-up and rebuild. This is the time of sleeves-rolled-up, side-by-side hard work. Your donation will enable our teams to provide what is necessary for those affected to recover.

PHASE 3
Flood waters may recede. Yet the long months of hard work after a disaster can be dangerous if survivors feel forgotten and left behind. You continue to provide Salvos counselling care months, and even years later, so no one needs to feel they are all alone.

*In the unlikely event that funds raised exceed the amount required to meet the emergency needs of people in affected areas of QLD, we will ensure the excess funds are used for broader Salvation Army emergency and disaster responses in QLD.
