Economic Reform Roundtable Submission - The Commonwealth Treasury - July 2025

In late 2025, in the lead up to the Economic Reform Roundtable, the Commonwealth Treasury conducted short inquiry process around increasing productivity, increasing economic resilience and increase budget sustainability.

The Salvation Army provided a submission to this process which highlights the critical considerations we have for the reform roundtable.

The Salvation Army’s submission to the Economic Reform Roundtable highlights the critical role of addressing entrenched disadvantage—particularly poverty and homelessness—in fostering long-term economic and social benefits for Australia.

The submission focuses on how the long-term fiscal implications of poverty on the health, mental-health and justice systems, as well as the employment and education outcomes that that stem from intergenerational poverty.

Addressing poverty and housing shortages will boost both community service productivity, and economic participation.

The Salvation Army continues to It is critical that addressing disadvantage is at the centre of discussions about Australia’s economic future. We will continue to engage with the government to ensure that economic reform focuses upon the people we serve.
