Accommodation and homelessness services

We value people at all stages of their lives, and we will work alongside to help them achieve their personal goals.

We exist to bring support - practical, emotional, relational and spiritual - to those who want and need it. For those experiencing homelessness, we don’t just offer accommodation or provide services, we journey with them.

We understand that restoration is different for every person. Our Community Resource Workers and upfront Intervention Teams work with people to help them achieve their housing, personal and life goals. Providing customised care to one person at a time helps build healthy communities around Australia.

Our accommodation model

We have a variety of places to stay, with accommodation that caters for different needs and stages of homelessness. We focus on cultivating personal agency through self-care and self-management, planning ahead to set and meet personal goals.

Whatever the choice, we support people every step of the way. At the Salvos, we believe that no-one should have to go it alone.

Our outcomes

The people we journey with can and do experience restoration and reclaim their lives. Within an environment of dignity and respect, aligned with an ‘I can’ philosophy, people embrace a positive change.

With the right support, people can improve their personal and housing situation, and go on to maintain secure accomodation. As part of our service, we also offer people opportunities to develop their skills and improve their employability, self-worth and valued involvement in their local community.

Salvation Army Housing and Salvos Housing

Salvation Army Housing (SA, TAS, VIC and WA) and Salvos Housing (ACT, NSW and QLD) are the affordable housing providers for The Salvation Army Australia. They provide secure housing solutions that meet the needs of low-income earners and work closely with the programs and services of The Salvation Army with a view to seeing people empowered and resilient. We seek to value the person and understand their true needs and goals while giving support as they find their place in the community.

Our housing services seek to gain access to, control and manage properties for

  • crisis housing
  • transitional/supportive housing
  • affordable housing and
  • social housing

in areas of need where TSA is working and can provide appropriate levels of support.

Over the years, we have sought to transform the way we service this need, away from large complexes to a community-based accommodation model, with services to assist clients to regain their independence and, in time, move into mainstream housing. People in need are referred to our service through appropriate government agencies and we participate with government in the development and implementation of policies intended to relieve homelessness and housing stress.

The Salvation Army acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.
