Bunnings supports flood-impacted communities with national sausage sizzle fundraiser

More than 300 Bunnings stores across Australia will fire up their barbeques this Friday 28 October between 9am and 4pm to help raise funds for communities affected by the recent floods in Victoria, NSW and Tasmania.

The generosity of Bunnings, their stores and team members who are preparing to turn sausages is testament to the focus this large national retailer has on assisting communities.

Customers can stop by a Bunnings store, chat to one of their friendly team members for practical advice and enjoy a well-loved sausage. All funds raised will go to The Salvation Army to continue to assist those who have been impacted by the devastating floods.

Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) teams are continuing to work to support impacted communities through the emergency and recovery phase of the flood disaster. Donated funds allow the Salvos to be on the ground now and for the long haul, supporting impacted people with financial grants along with practical and emotional assistance.

“Our personnel are in our catering trucks and trailers, providing meals and emotional support for those impacted by floods,” said Major Bruce Harmer, National Public Relations Secretary. “And this work will continue well after the initial emergency response phase, providing support to ensure communities are supported practically, as well as emotionally, through the recovery and rebuild phases.

“Our teams have been assisting in many centres, including Creswick, Echuca, Bendigo, Seymour, Tatura and Shepparton in Victoria; and Moama and Wagga Wagga in NSW. As the floods peaked last week, the Salvos were in 22 evacuation centres across NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.

“So, we are encouraging Australians to get down to their local Bunnings on Friday and grab a snag to support flood-impacted communities, knowing all funds will go directly to those most in need.”

Bunnings Managing Director Mike Schneider said his team members across Australia were keen to support people impacted by the floods.

“As a part of the local communities who have been affected, including many of our own team members, we want to help,” Mike said. “Our team members always embrace the opportunity to get behind the barbeque to help out.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with The Salvation Army, who are doing an incredible job supporting communities. We know there is a long road ahead, and Bunnings team members will continue to work alongside impacted communities in the coming weeks and months to offer support and assistance with the recovery and rebuilding process.”

In the past financial year, Bunnings worked with The Salvation Army across Australia to help raise and contribute over $415,000 through more than 900 activities.

To help raise awareness and show their support, customers can share a photo on social media using the hashtag #SalvosFloodRelief.
