Salvos Funerals - new service provides compassionate and affordable care

3 March 2017

The Salvation Army is now offering a funeral service to provide compassionate and affordable care to those in grief.

Salvos Funerals caters for all funeral arrangement types, with all profits reinvested into the charitable works of The Salvation Army.

The head of Salvos Funerals, Malcolm Pittendrigh, says, “Our service aims to provide a beautiful funeral that is a thoughtful blend of remembrance, celebration and mourning – with fair and affordable options.

“By working with our trusted partners, Salvos Funerals provides real value for quality services. We are here to help you thoughtfully plan, choose and manage what can be an otherwise overwhelming task.

“By choosing Salvos Funerals, you will also be supporting the valuable broader work of The Salvation Army in the community. The Salvation Army’s services are wide-ranging and diverse and include crisis accommodation for people experiencing homelessness, detox and rehabilitation programs for those experiencing drug and alcohol addictions, and emergency relief for people in disasters.”

Consumer advocate Christopher Zinn has welcomed The Salvation Army’s entry into the market.

“The Salvation Army’s entry into this important market will bring much needed competition, transparency and genuine lower cost options,” Mr Zinn said.

The Salvos have been giving hope where it’s needed most for 150 years and is well adept at providing for families dealing with grief and loss. Salvation Army officers are available to provide care for those dealing with the death of a loved one and often facilitate meaningful ceremonies and assist with funeral arrangements.

Salvos Funerals is entirely owned and operated by The Salvation Army. The service cares for all and can assist with specific cultural or family requirements. Following the funeral, the Salvos can also help with many other support services and provide on-going support.

Mr Pittendrigh states, “The stress of organising a funeral when you’re grieving can be a distressing experience, but Salvos Funerals hopes to be there to alleviate the emotional burden and provide cost-effective options. We are a community of people who are passionate about caring for others and providing a service that’s for a good cause.”
