Mark’s story

“I ended up in jail and lost everything. Then I ended up on the streets. I was just screaming out for help.” The beginning of Mark’s story is common. Cycles of drug abuse followed by periods of hardship and remorse, bouts of psychosis, depression, prison spells, homelessness – for Mark, things had a tendency to spiral out of control.

But in a rehabilitation program, Mark’s life changed forever. Now clean for three-and-a-half years, amazing things have happened. His family is back in his life, and after studying for his Cert IV in Community Services, he’s now the Coordinator of the “Garden of Hope” at our Harry Hunter Rehab Centre.

“My life now – it’s just unbelievable,” he says. “I’ve got a good bunch of people around me now, people that really care about me. I learnt so much from going through the program.”
