Emergency Services

On average, we’re responding to one emergency a day – providing practical, material and spiritual support to those affected and those helping on the ground.

Whatever assistance is needed

One of the greatest human qualities is being able to pull together in times of crisis. This is why when there’s no time to lose, we’re ready to provide support wherever it’s needed most.

In times of emergency and disaster, state governments call on our Emergency Services teams to respond quickly and provide assistance as part of their larger State Disaster Plans. From immediate relief including food and refreshments for emergency workers or meals, beds and essentials for victims, to more substantial support through financial aid, counselling and accommodation services, we’re well equipped to meet the needs of those affected.

From Cyclone Tracy to Ash Wednesday, road accidents to drought relief, floods, missing-person searches, and more – thanks to your generous support, our emergency service teams can respond wherever and whenever they are needed.

Victoria’s blackest day

Immediately following the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009, our Victorian Bushfire Appeal received more than $23 million in donations. This allowed us to be on-site across the state providing more than 50,000 meals, offering counselling to those affected and to the response teams involved, coordinating material aid and importantly offering immediate financial assistance to people affected by the fire.

In the first 72 hours, we had provided more than $1 million in immediate financial grants. By the end of the first week, $2.5 million had been distributed. But, even more importantly, after the news crews had moved on we remained active in fire affected communities, assisting with emotional, financial and material needs as well as providing community building events and activities and specialist support for young people.

We could only have achieved this with the generosity of the community.
