Operation Talisman Sabre'21

28 September 2021

Exercise Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral combined training activity between the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and United States (US) military and other allies. It is designed to test our respective forces in planning and conducting Combined and Joint Task Force operations and improve the combat readiness and interoperability between Australian and US forces.

Occurring every two years, Talisman Sabre reflects the closeness of our alliance and strength of our enduring military relationship. Approximately 17,000 military personnel from seven nations participated on land, air and sea during TS21.

RSDS took the opportunity to support this exercise in North Queensland. Led by Sallyman Major Nigel Roden, the Townsville RSDS Team including Sallyma’am Major Penni Roden, Sallyman Major Garry Johnson and Sallyman Territorial Envoy Greg Curnow, served service personnel thousands of litres of coffee and tea and pallet loads of biscuits, lollies and gum, but more importantly provided the listening ear and support when a break from the rigours of the exercise were required. The conversations had, and relationships built, on exercises like Talisman Sabre, demonstrates the invaluable service RSDS provides each year.
