Major Mairi Mitchell (OIC)

I was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in November 1999, and then commissioned as a military chaplain in March 2008.  I went inactive as an ADF serving member on Salvation Army appointment to RSDS in Jan 2015.

1CSSB is my unit, but with Gerald, it is recognised we cover all of 1 brigade in Darwin.

I was deployed to MER in Feb/Mar Mar 2020. Deployment cut short due to Covid-19. Landed in UAE on Feb 12, left on Apr 2. Quarantined for 2 weeks on return to Darwin before being released home. Whilst in the UAE managed to lead some cultural tours before the sites closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. I assisted the chaplains on base with supporting people in various stages of arrival quarantine. I also visited personnel in their workplaces, when possible.

In my role as an RSDS Rep, I most enjoy the the people, the privilege of being invited into the soldiers’ workspaces and lives.
