The Sanctuary Course begins next week!
How can a church become a sanctuary—a place where individuals living with mental health challenges feel safe, supported, and a sense of belonging? The Sanctuary Course was created to inspire and equip communities of faith that are asking this important question. Developed in consultation with mental health professionals, theologians, and people with lived experience, this eight-session study guide explores key mental health topics and examines meaningful ways to offer companionship, support recovery, and promote wellbeing.

The Sanctuary Course is for anyone who wants to learn about faith and mental health. It requires no previous training or expertise—just a willingness to engage in dialogue with other believers. This course and films address difficult and sensitive topics, and may not be appropriate for a young audience. It is not recommended for people ages 17 and younger.

This course will take place at Parramatta Salvos (426 Church Street, Parramatta) from 19 July-6 September on Wednesday evenings from 7pm-8:30pm. Supper will be provided for a gold coin donation each week. Parking is available in our undercover car park (entry via Grose Street).

Car Park Update
Many thanks to Richard Eden and the team of volunteers who give of their time to co-ordinate and open the corps car park when sporting events are on at CommBank Stadium. We are pleased to let you know that during the 2022/23 financial year the car park raised almost $21,000 of income for Parramatta.

We greatly appreciate the work that goes into this fundraising and for the time you give to serve this way.

If you are interested in being part of this team, please contact Richard. You are able to nominate the dates that you are available, and it is usually only for two hours every couple of months.
Market Day Update from Thushy (Community Engagement Worker)
I'm thrilled to share that our "Community Market Day" on 12/07/2023 attracted around 105 community members. We had the support of approximately 16 volunteers, including 3 new volunteers and 2 corporate volunteers from Haleon, making the program run smoothly and successfully.

Over the past two weeks, we were fortunate to have the Kids Giving Back program join us. They cooked food on Tuesdays and delivered it to community members on Wednesdays, adding an extra level of support.

We also collaborated with Salvos Stores in Parramatta this week, setting up a clothing stall where community members could purchase winter clothes at very affordable prices. This will continue periodically.

A special thanks to Nando's in Parramatta for providing lunch packs to our volunteers on the first Wednesday of every month, showing their appreciation for the valuable contributions they make to the program.

Additionally, we have introduced an extra stall for community members to purchase additional items at reasonable prices. These items were purchased from the food bank, ensuring affordability and accessibility.

It is truly inspiring to witness the continued growth and impact of our "Community Market Day" program. Thank you to all the volunteers and partners who make it possible to serve our community in such meaningful ways.
Concierge Update - Ajies (AJ) Sivashanmuganathan

We would like to inform you that AJ, our concierge, has been given the opportunity to work for Employment Plus, commencing on Monday 17 July. While this is a loss for us, it is great for AJ and he leaves with our blessing. We will still see him around because he will be based downstairs in Shop 5.

We want to thank AJ for all his work over the past 5 months and wish him all the best as he commences his new role.

We are in the process of re-employing and will keep you informed of the progress of this.
