Hi Parramatta Salvos,

This Sunday we continue our sermon series, 'Jesus and Justice'. This week, we will continue to unpack the biblical meaning of justice through the example of Jesus as he 'confronts the powerful'.

We hope to see you this Sunday at 9:30am or 11am at Parramatta Salvos!

(Corps Officer Team)
Mother's Day
Next Sunday, 14 May, we celebrate all the fantastic women at Parramatta Salvos. We will be meeting for one service at 10am, followed by a special morning tea. Come along and use our Photo Booth before and after the service as well!
Corps Retreat 2023
We will be joining together at the Tops Conference Centre from Friday night 30 June to Sunday 2 July under the leadership of Lt. Cols. David and Sandra Godkin. All are welcome to attend as full delegates or day delegates (prices listed in registration link below).

We don't want the cost to be a barrier for anyone, so please let us know if you would like to receive sponsorship. To make the camp more affordable for families, under 18s will be able to attend at a discounted rate (50% less for full delegates).

We would also ask that if you are able, you consider giving a little extra to sponsor another delegate.

The weekend will be a mix of sessions (worship, prayer, teaching), fun activities (theme night, board games, walks and coffee) and time to hang out and relax.

We need registrations ASAP, so please follow this link to register: https://forms.office.com/r/xiTWnxV99n
Please note that no payment is required upon registrations - we just really need to know numbers! Also, paper registrations forms are now available in the foyer. Please place them in the 'letterbox' in the foyer.
Ladies Fellowship
The Ladies Fellowship meet every Wednesday from 10am for morning tea, followed by their meeting at 10.30am. This is always a great time of fellowship and eduaction.
This Wednesday 10 May, our special guest will be Mj. Kylie.
Movie Night Fundraiser!
All ages are welcome to attend our Movie Night Red Shield Appeal Fundraiser on Friday night 19 May at 7pm. Entry is $5 donation per person, and there will be food, snacks and drinks available for purchase. Voting for the movie will take place on Mother’s Day!
Red Shield Appeal
May is here, and we would love it if you created an online profile to raise money for the Red Shield Appeal on behalf of Parramatta Corps. Make sure you select your zone as Parramatta/Holroyd when you create your profile! https://www.digitaldoorknock.salvationarmy.org.au/parramatta-zone

We encourage you to sign up to collect at a static point, or to Doorknock on the Weekend of 20-21 May!
Worship on the Red Shield Appeal Weekend
In previous years, we have not held a service on the Red Shield Appeal Weekend. However, this year with less people out collecting and door knocking on the Sunday, we are excited to announce that we will be holding a service at 10am on Sunday 21 May - this will be a cafe-style service with lots of great discussion. We encourage you, if you are not on one of our collection points, to join us for this service that will be led by Clayton Spence. There will be no live-stream this week, so please plan to join us in-person.
Red Sunday + Bake Sale
On Sunday 28 May, we celebrate Pentecost and invite you to wear something RED.

We will also be raising funds for the Red Shield Appeal on this day with a bake sale between the two services. If you would like to contribute baked goods, please let Kylie know.

Plan to come and buy some sweet treats to help us raise money for the Red Shield Appeal!
Worship Night
Save the date for next our Youth and Young Adults Worship Night! We will be meeting once again on Sunday 28 May where we will be joined by our Divisional Commander, Captain Kim Haworth!

Pastoral Letter from our Territorial Leader
This week, Salvation Army Officers received a pastoral letter from our Territorial Leader, Commissioner Miriam Gluyas. We have been asked to share this letter with all members of our church community, and we hope that you feel encouraged and inspired by Miriam's words. To read the letter, please click on this link.
Mj. Kylie away
This weekend, Kylie is in Adelaide conducting a wedding. We will miss Kylie this Sunday, but pray that Kylie, Dave and Josiah have a great weekend away catching up with friends and family!
Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (AGVVS -formerly Community Visitor Scheme)
AGVVS has been operating at Parramatta for over 30 years and for the last 17 years Leanne Coia has been the co-ordinator of this program. We are sad to advise that Leanne has decided to resign from this position and will conclude her employment with us at the end of May. More will be said in the coming weeks, but we are grateful to Leanne for all she has contributed to AGVVS over this time. She will be missed both in the office here at Parramatta and by the volunteers and Aged Care Facilities she works with.

We will be employing a new co-ordinator and details about this position will be available in due course.
May Prayer Room
You are invited to read and use these prayer resources in your quiet time. Click here to access the May prayer room.
The High Council
The 2023 Salvation Army High Council will meet in Sunbury Court, England from 18-22 May to elect a new General for The Salvation Army in accordance with The Salvation Army Act.

A High Council is made up of:
  • Active commissioners who are territorial commanders or who hold an international or national headquarters or territorial leadership appointment
  • Territorial commanders with the rank of colonel
  • Territorial leaders with the rank of colonel.
How does the High Council work?
High Council prepares around 15 questions for candidates and five for their spouses. To be elected, a candidate needs the vote of:
  • More than two thirds of members in one of the first three ballots
  • More than 50 per cent from the fourth ballot onwards.

We invite you to pray for our International Leaders as they gather, and a new General is elected. On 20 May there is a Welcome to the 2023 High Council that will take place in London. This will also be the farewell to General Brian Peddle and Commissioner Rosalie Peddle. To virtually attend the event, find livestreaming details: https://www.salvationarmy.org/ihq/high-council-2023-welcome#livestream
