Favourite Band Piece / Composer:  To the Chief Musician - Bill Himes [FS438]

This suite of three movements takes its title from the note above some of the Psalms which refer to the chief musician.  The movements are: I. Introit  Psalm 100:4, II. Sacrifice  Psalm 51:17,  III. Worship  Psalm 29:2.  An unusual feature of the suite is the use of choric-speaking which adds to the effectiveness of the presentation.  Written for the Chicago Staff Band to perform at the retirement festival of Commissioner Richard E Holz, it includes three of his favourite tunes: 'Bread of Heaven', 'I bring Thee my all' and 'Boston'.

Interests:  Sports, running, reading, music

Favourite Bible Verse:  Philippians 2:1-11

Paul uses these words to remind his readers of the example they are to follow.

Life Influences:   Came to The Salvation Army in Adelaide after marriage to Lorraine.  Influenced by corps officers at Adelaide Congress Hall and entered Training College in 1982.  34 years as an active officer – most in administration, and retired January 2018. Required to learn brass as a cadet and have played in a band ever since college.  Member of the Melbourne Staff Band for 3¼ years – but non-playing.  Music has become very important in my life, and has brought me much blessing.
