Our people
Recruitment and screening
The Salvation Army has a large and diverse workforce* across Australia, and we recognise that our recruitment and screening processes form the essential foundations for a culture of safety and wellbeing for children and young people.
Prior to starting with the organisation, new employees and volunteers are subject to mandatory background screening (as defined for each position) to ensure the most suitable candidate is selected.
Throughout their engagement with The Salvation Army, we provide our workforce with supervision and support to ensure they meet the organisation’s expectations and mandatory requirements in relation to their work and engagement with children.
Additionally, anyone working directly with children and young people must have a current Working with Children Check and other background checks.
*The Salvation Army workforce includes a diverse group of people, such as officers, employees, volunteers and students.
Training
The Salvation Army is committed to ensuring its workforce is equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe.
We provide ongoing education and quality training on child safety and wellbeing. Our training is tailored to the needs of our workforce, ensuring they’re equipped with the most appropriate resources and skills to best support children and young people.
Our places and programs
Children and young people use a wide range of environments to learn, play, connect and grow. We are committed to creating safe spaces for children and young people – both online and in person.
