Safeguarding children and young people

We are a child safe organisation

Keeping children and young people safe and well within organisations is so much more than having policies and procedures in place. A child safe organisation is one that creates a culture, adopts strategies and takes real action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is at the centre of its values, decisions and actions.

The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation that consciously and systematically:

  • Creates an environment where the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is at the centre of thought, values and actions
  • Places value and emphasis on genuine engagement with children and young people
  • Creates conditions that reduce the likelihood of harm to children and young people
  • Creates conditions that increase the likelihood of identifying any harm
  • Responds to any concerns, disclosures, allegations or suspicions of harm

Our commitment to children and young people

A message from Territorial Leaders - Robert and Janine Donaldson

"The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a shared priority and responsibility for everyone across The Salvation Army. We all have an important role to play in the safeguarding process – regardless of our position in the organisation – and we commit to placing the safety and wellbeing of children and young people at the centre of what we do."
