Addiction is a pervasive social reality throughout Australian society. Some people become addicted to substances after they use them to relieve pain from a medical or psychological issue (self-medication). Substance abuse can also occur as a result of experimentation or choice.
We provide many services in the Northern Territory to help people gain independence away from substance abuse.

The Sunrise Centre has 22 rooms and three withdrawal beds that are supported by Withdrawal Services from Royal Darwin Hospital. The program is available to men and women over 18 who wish to address their substance misuse. Our centre offers a shared housing facility. All residents have their own bedroom with an ensuite.
There is also a full-time psychologist on-site.
Our drug and alcohol service can provide aftercare in the form of support and readmission to the residential or day program on a voluntary basis.
We also offer a six-week support program to help clients reintegrate into the community, and can offer assistance to secure accommodation.
The Salvation Army has partnered with a community organisation called Red Dust to deliver an intergenerational alcohol and other drugs program on Arrernte lands in Alice Springs for men 18 years and over. The partnership aims to increase engagement and participation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Alice Springs, for better outcomes.
This non-residential program is delivered by facilitators in the form of psycho-educational groups, individual and group therapy sessions called ‘yarns’, vocational training workshops and bush camps. The facilitators are local, initiated Aboriginal men who are active and positive community role models.
