Take Action with The Salvos

Introduce your students to the work of The Salvation Army in Australia while empowering them to undertake a community project alongside the Salvos.

Secondary: Year 7–8

This workshop should accompany a project or action your students undertake to support The Salvation Army. It provides an overview of our work, then dives into the impact the student project will have in their local community, and for the Salvos.

This workshop introduces the work of The Salvation Army and serves to inspire students to take action for social justice. The workshop should accompany a school ‘action project’ to support The Salvation Army. In the workshop, students will come to understand the true impact of their action, understanding who it helps, hearing stories about the impact they will make and how the Salvos provide support. 

Action projects

Select one of the below opportunities or get creative and let us know how you would like to partner to support your local community:  

  • Create ‘care packs’ 
  • Run a fundraiser 
  • Host a donation drive (for example, non-perishable food, toiletries, clothing, blankets) 
  • Hold a pre-loved clothing and item donation drive for Salvos Stores  

Learning outcomes

  • Introduces the work and mission of The Salvation Army in Australia 
  • Students come to understand the various social services that The Salvation Army operates to provide support to people in hardship 
  • Students are empowered with local opportunities to take social justice action 
  • Students know where to seek support for themselves and others experiencing hardship 
  • Students understand how they can take social justice action on both an individual and community level
