Through the careful delivery of a lived experience story, students explore financial hardship with compassion.
The workshop helps students understand that financial hardship often arises from circumstances outside a person’s control. It emphasises that structural change is both possible and necessary to reduce poverty in Australia; as well as speaks to the support that The Salvation Army provides to people experiencing financial hardship.

- Students come to understand the ways that The Salvation Army provides support to people experiencing hardship or poverty
- Students understand contributing factors of people’s experiences with poverty in Australia
- Students gain greater awareness of drivers of financial hardship
- Students know where to seek support for themselves and others experiencing hardship
- Students are empowered with ways to take action on an individual and community level to positively contribute to their community
