The workshop outlines the support that The Salvation Army provides to people experiencing poverty and financial hardship and our fight to ensure that no one is left in need.

Through the careful delivery of a lived experience story, students explore financial hardship with compassion.

The workshop helps students understand that financial hardship often arises from circumstances outside a person’s control. It emphasises that structural change is both possible and necessary to reduce poverty in Australia; as well as speaks to the support that The Salvation Army provides to people experiencing financial hardship.  

Learning outcomes

  • Students come to understand the ways that The Salvation Army provides support to people experiencing hardship or poverty 
  • Students understand contributing factors of people’s experiences with poverty in Australia   
  • Students gain greater awareness of drivers of financial hardship 
  • Students know where to seek support for themselves and others experiencing hardship  
  • Students are empowered with ways to take action on an individual and community level to positively contribute to their community
