Leaders of Change

Plan a project that makes a positive impact in your local community.

Primary: Year 5–6

As 'Leaders of Change', students are equipped and empowered to address a community issue and plan a local social justice activation. This workshop givestudents the tools, encouragement and planning time to develop a tangible project that makes a difference in the community.

Students will be provided with scaffolding resources for their projects to assist in brainstorming, planning, promotion and implementation. Beginning in this workshop, and continuing throughout the project, students will develop their understanding of the necessity of working together to create change while focusing on the leadership skills of collaboration, communication and planning.

Learning outcomes

  • Students come to understand the ways that The Salvation Army provides support to people 
  • Students will build their knowledge of advocacy and how they can use their voice to support others 
  • Students will understand the key concerns in the community 
  • Students will be empowered and equipped to lead change initiatives in their communities 
  • Students will build on their leadership, collaboration and communication skills
