The Salvation Army is a Christian denominational church as well as an international charitable organisation. Our mission to serve and transform community are energised and motivated by the example that we have seen, heard and experienced in the person of Jesus. His declaration in Luke 4:18-19 (quoting from Isaiah 61) is a core inspiration for the Ryde Salvation Army:

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

We see the evil and destruction in the world and believe that it demonstrates that all men, women and children are in need of rescue and freedom. We are convinced that the Good News of Christianity is that God has not given up on his creation; but that in the person of Jesus Christ, God has demonstrated his love for humanity. Jesus is the perfect rescuer and freedom bringer that all of creation needs and He invites everyone, no matter who you are or where you have been, into a story of rescue. We believe the good news that in Jesus, rescue and freedom can be everyone's story, and we seek to embody and incarnate that message in everything we do.

We have attempted to create a resource to summarise the Message of Rescue , check it at the link below:
