The Program

The Salvos Coffee Program has been in operation for over 7 years, providing life changing services to our members.

Salvos Coffee has around 700 active members who all contribute coffee to us for processing and sale. In essence, Salvos Coffee is a centrally organised growing group and in partnership which each other we are able to fetch a higher price for our members coffee.Fair Trade organic quality coffee Papua New Guinea

During the two annual harvest seasons the Salvos Coffee team, working with our location specific field officers have collated and collected the coffee produced by each isolated cluster. The sun dried coffee is then transported back to Goroka for milling where it is transformed into green beans. The coffee is sold in bulk and the proceeds are deposited into farmer accounts in the Salvos Coffee passbook system.

The passbook system, in collaboration with 7 years of financial literacy education and training, assists farmers to save their revenue for well thought out expenses, such as school fees and medical bills.

While collecting and selling coffee is the backbone of the CARE program, perhaps the most impacting part is our social care, education and training element. The Salvos Coffee Program is based around a cluster system that is centered on the local Salvation Army Church in each village.  There is a field officer dedicated to each of our three zones and working in conjunction with support from the Salvos Coffee Program Coordinator, we are able to provide a host of services to our members. Our key programs include:

  • Agricultural support
  • Financial education and training
  • Health and Hygiene awareness
  • Social care and spiritual support
