Salvos Stores, Family Stores and thrift shops temporarily close during COVID-19 crisis

Salvos Stores, Family Stores and thrift shops have made the difficult decision to close their doors to the public while the COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten the health and safety of Australians.

This week The Salvation Army has made the difficult decision to temporarily close all Salvos Stores, Family Stores and Thrift Shops from Wednesday 1st April.

This is a decision made to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community of customers, donors and team members.

The temporary closure of Salvos Stores, Family Stores and Thrift Shops is significant for The Salvation Army as it is one of our most recognisable expressions. For many, it is their first interaction with the organisation.

Not just ‘op shops’ these are community spaces for bargain hunters, treasure finders, sustainable shoppers and people in need. They may also be the first point of contact for a person experiencing hardship to reach out for help and be linked to Salvation Army services.

100 per cent of the profits from sales of donated goods through the stores go towards funding vital services delivered by The Salvation Army. These services support thousands of Australians each day who are experiencing hardship and injustice. With COVID-19 impacting the lives and livelihoods of so many, there are now more people than ever reaching out for our help.

If you are currently experiencing hardship please visit our need help page.

While stores may be temporarily closed, there will be a continuing effort to play a role in delivering the Salvos mission in Australia, to work together to spread community spirit and support each other and those who are most vulnerable in our society.

The Salvation Army would like to extend our thanks to our teams for their hard work throughout the past few weeks, as well as our customers and donors for their on-going support.
