The General is The Salvation Army’s world leader
The main responsibilities of the General and the International Headquarters administrative departments are to deal with strategic and long-range planning, provide spiritual guidance, and to act as resource centre for the worldwide Army.
Australia Territory
The Salvation Army Australia is called a ‘territory’
The territory is headed by the Territorial Commander, usually having the rank of commissioner or colonel. In Australia, our Territorial Commander is supported by a board and committees.
The Australia Territory Board
The Australia Territory Board provides governance oversight to the Territory in accordance with Australian law, governance principles and all requirements under International Headquarters Orders and Regulations. It strategically positions the Territory to have a sustainable, major influence in Australian society and provides advice and assistance to the Trustees.
Operations Council
The Operations Council supports and advises the Chief Secretary in managing the implementation and delivery of the Board-approved strategy, ensuring compliance with all Salvation Army policies and providing advice and assistance to the Chief Secretary and the Trustees to enable The Salvation Army to achieve its vision.
The Council may engage with and seek the advice and assistance of the Executive Mission Leadership Team.

Structure
The administrative structure of The Salvation Army is divided into zones, territories, divisions and corps.
Symbols
From its earliest days, The Salvation Army used the emblem of the shield. We have many other symbols of importance that help us with public recognition both in Australia and worldwide.
