Social media ban

From 10 December 2025, new Australian regulations require many social media platforms to take reasonable steps to prevent young people under the age of 16 from holding an account.

Responding to Australian regulations

The regulations were designed to reduce exposure to harmful content and create safer online environments, but they may also feel disruptive for young people who rely on digital spaces for connection, belonging and friendship. For some, losing access to familiar platforms can bring real feelings of loss, isolation, or fear of missing out. Those emotions deserve to be taken seriously, not dismissed.

In response to these changes, we’ve developed a set of practical, compassionate resources to help young people, parents, and leaders navigate this transition well. Each resource explains what the changes mean and acknowledges both the challenges and potential benefits, offering guidance for healthy conversations, emotional support and safe alternatives for staying connected. Rather than focusing only on rules or restrictions, the resources aim to centre wellbeing, understanding and the importance of maintaining strong relationships, both online and offline.

These resources are here to help you, your leaders, parents, and young people navigate the changes with social media. We hope they are helpful, spark meaningful conversations and provide reassurance during what may feel like an uncertain season. No one needs to navigate these changes alone. With the right support, this shift can become an opportunity for deeper connection, resilience, and care.
