Common Ground
Housing and support.
A four-way partnership between Federal and State Government, Common Ground Adelaide and The Salvation Army.
Opened in 2012, the Common Ground Port Augusta (CGPA) project addresses the shortage of housing primarily for Aboriginal people who are experiencing homeless or are at risk of homelessness. It does this by providing long-term accommodation with support services.
We have two facilities, located on Boston Street and Augusta Terrace.
Boston Street, opened December 2012
Ten single bedrooms and five two-bedroom units of housing for people requiring affordable housing and who have low support needs.
Augusta Terrace, opened September 2013
Twenty single bedroom units of housing for people requiring medium to high levels of support in an alcohol-free environment.
The foundational principles of CGPA
This project is designed around a 'Housing First’ model based on four foundational principles:
- Provision of high quality, stable and affordable housing
- Provision of accessible wrap around support that responds to each individual’s identified needs
- Create a sense of community through intentional 'Place Making'
- Engagement in activity including a focus on employment, education, training or volunteering
