$1m allocated to fast start recovery from TC Seroja’s impact 

The Salvation Army has approved the immediate release of $1 million from Red Shield Appeal reserves to provide support to Mid North communities impacted by Tropical Cyclone Seroja.

Salvation Army Emergency Services have been at work since Monday in Geraldton providing food for DFES and SES teams with approximately 300 meals at each breakfast, lunch (to go) and dinner service.

As the effort to support the first responders continues, focus is switching to community relief and recovery.

The established Salvation Army Geraldton Corps (community church) re-opened Tuesday and is the current contact point for locals seeking emergency relief from the Salvos’ Doorways service.

The first Salvation Army Emergency Services recovery workers are also in place and will help connect locals with the financial support and services they need when they are ready to start the journey to recovery. This will include mobile outreach services across the area of impact

The Salvation Army’s WA Commander, Major Brad Potter said,‘we have the experience in natural disaster response to help people now and into the future, knowing each person’s recovery is unique”.

“The immediate release of a million dollars from Red Shield Appeal reserves allows Salvation Army services to respond in a timely and dignified way as people reach out for support”.
