Victorian Salvation Army Restructure

Victorian Salvation Army restructure offers the community a more focussed approach

The Salvation Army in Victoria has announced some significant changes in its operations. In an effort to align the vast social program resources across the state, a State Social Command (SSC) has been established. Apart from the many efficiencies that the establishment of the SSC offers to all concerned it will most importantly provide The Salvation Army with a single voice on matters of policy, service provision and program funding.

State Social Command will be responsible for social areas such as homelessness, family violence, residential care, youth services and alcohol and drug support.

In addition, the existing four “Divisions” will be merged into three main geographic areas – Western Victoria Division, Central Victoria Division and Eastern Victoria Division, each with their own management structure with an emphasis on local community development and engagement.

The current Divisional Administration for “Northern Victoria Division” in Bendigo (Gravel Hill) will close but programs and corps community centres will operate as usual. The corps (church) centres will become part of the expanded Western Victoria Division or the new Central Victoria Division.

Commissioner Floyd Tidd the Territorial Commander of Australia Southern Territory said “We see this restructure as a major step in helping define our extensive social programs and providing concentrated support to our vital corps centres across the state. Change is always a challenge for any organisation, but we believe that this new model of operation will be a more efficient and accountable approach with great benefits for the community that we serve.”
