The Salvation Army acknowledges the release of the 30th June interim report by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Since the commencement of the Royal Commission in January 2013, The Salvation Army has co-operated openly and transparently with investigators and the Commission, and has conducted a historical review of all complaints files which has resulted in the recent dismissal of three officers.

“I have zero tolerance for any form of child abuse perpetrated within The Salvation Army. Any instance of abuse, no matter how historical, must be dealt with”, said Commissioner James Condon.

“As Commissioner of The Salvation Army, I want to again express my deep sorrow and regret for the abuse inflicted upon the children in our care”, he said.

The Salvation Army will continue its work and discussions with the Commission to review, strengthen and improve its child protection processes.
