Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse Case Study 5 Report and Findings

Published on
17 March 2015

The Salvation Army (Australia Eastern Territory) has cooperated fully, openly and transparently with the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and acknowledges the findings released today regarding Case Study 5.

At present, we are studying these findings and recommendations handed down. After this material has been reviewed, we will be in a position to comment further and in greater detail.

Once again, The Salvation Army wishes to express its deepest sorrow to survivors and their families who have been traumatised and hurt as a result of our failures. To confirm, The Salvation Army no longer runs any children’s homes as outlined in Case Study 5.

We acknowledge that the need for some survivors to re-tell of their experiences through the Royal Commission has caused them and their families great pain and sadness. We regret that because of our past failings this has been necessary - we are grateful to them for having the courage to do so.

Their braveness in coming forward has meant that these past institutional failings will never be repeated and that children will never be placed in such situations again.

The Salvation Army encourages anyone who was abused in any way to contact our Centre for Restoration directly on (02) 9266 9781 or centreforrestoration@aue.salvationarmy.org.
