The Salvation Army Tasmania has been nominated in the 2012 inaugural Homelessness Services Awards, to be presented on Thursday 22 March.

In the category of Excellence or Innovation in addressing Homelessness by an Organisation, The Salvation Army has been nominated for services operating in the state of Tasmania, along with other organizations in Victoria, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

The awards instigated by the Minister for Housing and Homelessness, Robert McClelland; celebrate excellence, quality, innovation and achievement being achieved by service providers across the country.

'Since gaining ministerial responsibility for homelessness I have been particularly impressed by the level of dedication in the homelessness services sector.' Mr. McClelland said. 'These awards recognize the commitment of those organizations and their staff who work day in and day out to support some of Australia's most vulnerable people.'

Nominations were open to the public in seven categories and the response was strong. ' It is a great testament to the great work being achieved across the sector,' Mr. McClelland said.
