What We Believe

'Christianity' may not be the first word that comes to mind when you hear of The Salvation Army, but it is the essential element of who we are and what we do.

Our work with the homeless and those afflicted with addictions has raised our profile in the community to a high level.  The fact that we are an evangelical movement of the Christian Church often escapes people's attention.  We are not ashamed that our primary motivation is a Christian love of God, and our purpose is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all people, regardless of age, creed or background.

You may never have thought about it before, but our work alongside all people, including the abused and marginalised, is inspired and sustained by the continual touch of God upon our lives and our commitment to him.

The Salvation Army has 11 faith-based statements called doctrines that summarise our religious beliefs and form the basis of our theology.
