Paddle Together Against Poverty Fundraiser

Why Paddle?

The Paddle Together Against Poverty Fundraising Event has two main purposes:

One purpose is to create a vibrant, connected, engaging community of people on the water. By working with the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania, Jetski Tas, and numerous paddle groups and business from across greater Hobart, we want to build an event where paddlers of any level can participate, have fun, and feel challenged. Paddlers Against Poverty's motto, "No One Paddles Alone" means we all look after each other - on and off the water.

We have specially designed our course to take into account varying weather conditions and to also provide options of distance and complexity for paddlers from the complete novice through to the seasoned veteran. All paddlers have two (2) hours to complete the course, and can go as far and as fast as they would like/feel comfortable with.

The other purpose of this event is to help out some young people who are facing difficulty and disadvantage in their lives.

Every term, The Salvation Army Clarence City provides 750 "grab and go" lunch packs to various high schools on Hobart's eastern shore. These packs, in addition to giving a young person a meal, have been proven to increase educational engagement and make a significant difference in the wellbeing and development of young people.

A project of this size costs over $20,000 a year to run. Along side a generous donation from a corporate sponsor, the rest of the funds for this initiative comes from The Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal and from funds raised during this event.
