Join us for a free Christmas meal

Every year, the Salvos host free Christmas lunches and other meals across the country. We would love to welcome you to one!

The story of Christmas is the story of God’s abundant kindness and sacrificial love in sending Jesus Christ, his Son, into the world.

The Bible says, “God has shown his love to us by sending his only Son into the world” (1 John 4:9, NLV). God’s kindness gives us a reason for joy and inspires us to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Out of this joy flows kindness shown to others.

We invite you to experience kindness and celebrate a Christmas lunch with us. If you are feeling lonely, have no one to share Christmas Day with, are unable to prepare your own Christmas Day lunch or dinner, are on your own or with your kids – you are welcome.

Together we will celebrate Christmas with decorations, music, a delicious meal and great conversation.

To join us, please search for your closest event below and contact us ASAP to register your interest. These events can book out quickly and COVID-19 restrictions may mean smaller numbers of guests can attend this year. Not all Salvation Army locations offer free Christmas meals, but many do host Christmas church services or carols events. Use the form below to find your nearest suburb.

If you are struggling and need help to celebrate Christmas with your loved ones, we have food hampers and gift assistance available here. Find more information and contact your local Salvos.

Frequently asked questions

Everyone is welcome to celebrate Christmas with us. This includes – but is not exclusive to – local community members who have a connection with the Salvos, people who don’t have family around and want someone to share a meal with, and people who have been helped by the Salvos in the past and currently. You may come on your own or with your children.

Depending on the state restrictions and government health advice in your local area, there may be limits on attendance, less volunteers and a need for registration. Some Christmas meals will be outside to accommodate more people. Some may be takeaway only. Salvation Army centres and churches will follow all state government guidelines and complete risk assessments and COVID-19 Safety Plans before hosting an event. What won’t be different is the love, joy and acceptance you will find at a Salvos Christmas meal! Please contact your local Salvation Army for further information and specific advice.

The Salvation Army loves Christmas because we find hope and joy in the good news of Jesus’ birth. We love celebrating Christmas and want to help as many people as possible experience the same joy! Our Christmas meals are full of fun, laughter and friendship.

Please use the search tool above to locate your nearest Salvos and free Christmas meal. Not all Salvation Army centres offer a free Christmas meal but many host Christmas church services and carols events.

These events are usually free of charge, though some may have a nominal fee if it is part of a larger community fun day. Please speak to the organiser of your local Salvos event if payment is of concern.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there may be limits on the number of volunteers at your local event. Please contact your local Salvation Army to find out if you can volunteer at a Christmas meal or in other ways this Christmas. There are other volunteer opportunities available on our website.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. You can donate, organise your own food and gift drive, or fundraise to make Christmas Wishes come true. Find more information here.

If you are a small, local business, please contact your nearest Salvos (use link above). If you are a corporate business, please contact our corporate partnerships team.

We do our best to cater to a wide variety of food allergies, intolerances and other diets as we want as many people as possible to celebrate Christmas with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your local Salvos at the time of booking so they can do their best to accommodate your food requirements.
