The Street Outreach Service is one program that operates out of the Perth Fortress Corps where the Salvation Army can begin to build relationships with those living rough on the streets of the city of Perth.
Through this service, we are able to refer people to the Perth Doorways emergency relief and case management programs where they can receive quality person-centred help and support. We also do referrals to other Salvation Army Crisis Services and work with other Crisis Service Providers in the city.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday we have a night time Street Outreach service. This service provides hot meals for homeless people in various locations around Perth starting from around 7pm and finishing at 11pm. The teams can also distribute warm blankets and offer some transport to services such as the Bridge House Sobering up Service or simply to a safer place. There is a run sheet provided each night with a list of locations to check out in Northbridge and in the Perth City. Along with this the Street Teams keep an eye out for those sleeping rough, willing to help those who they can.
A lot of those on the streets eagerly await the presence of the welcoming faces and the help that our Street Teams provide. It is an important service that is provided for the Perth homeless and it is only made possible through the generous time given by our volunteers.
