The Salvation Army The Well at St Kilda Chapel plays an active role in the local community to provide a safe and welcoming place for people to come together to connect, build new friendships and learn skills.

A great atmosphere and sense of healthy family environment as volunteers work alongside each other, awaits you.

We have a number of volunteering opportunities for those who would like to get involved. These include Community Gardener, participating in the Pallet Creations project, or The Harvest Love @ The Well project and cooking.

We are constantly seeking new volunteers for the following roles:

Community Gardener

A volunteer Gardening Assistant is needed to help maintain our centre's garden. Tasks include weeding, mowing lawns, pruning, general tidying, keeping the garden and other outdoor areas free of weeds and sweeping concreted areas. Another important part of this role is suggesting and implementing garden improvements to enhance the overall ambiance of the garden and surrounds.

  • Integrity checks will be a requirement for this role.
  • A reasonable level of fitness is important as some heavy lifting may be required.
  • 1-2 days per week is an ongoing requirement. Shifts available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30am-2:30pm each day. Please advise your availability in your expression of interest.

General Maintenance Handy person

St Kilda Chapel is looking for someone who can assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment. The successful applicant will be required to utilise their skills in general maintenance, including basic repairs, replacements and adjustments to furniture and equipment on site.

This desirable role would suit a tradesperson or experienced handy person.

  • Applicant must have a good understanding of the importance of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and be diligent in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Being comfortable with tools would make you a perfect fit for this meaningful volunteer role.
  • Ability to use basic gardening and maintenance equipment is desirable but not essential as some training can be provided on site.
  • Integrity checks will be a requirement of this role.
  • Some heavy lifting may be required
  • A valid Victorian Drivers Licence (C) will be require.

Woodworkers

Do you have a flair for design and love to up-cycle? If so, this could be the role for you! St Kilda chapel has an opportunity for anyone who enjoys woodworking and has skills to be involved with the design and building of outdoor furniture for our newly created community project Pallet Creations.

Pallet Creations involves up-cycling of materials including wooden pallets and older wooden outdoor furniture to its former glory and creating new furniture and garden items.

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of woodwork and design
  • Strong commitment to PPE
  • Ability to work autonomously or within a team
  • Ability to co-design and collaborate with TSA Corps Officer and fellow team members
  • Ability to work within the mission and values of The Salvation Army
  • A level of physical fitness is needed in this role as some heavy lifting will be required
  • Integrity checks will be a requirement of this role
  • Induction and on-going training are necessary for this role.

Regular - more than 6 months

  • One or two days per week - Fridays -, and one Sunday per month, 10-2pm
