What is STeP123?

STeP123 is a Salvation Army initiative creating awareness of the importance of literacy in everyday life.

The focus of the initiative is on those in the community who do not have the ability or opportunity to access literacy programs. However, others with low levels of literacy in the wider community are also being supported through community partnerships and referral pathways. 

The Salvation Army recognises the importance of early childhood learning, together with the opportunity for parents or carers, to learn with their children. The Salvation Army also recognises the understanding and respect required for teenage and adult learners. We are all individuals, at different places in our lives, and with different goals, therefore different approaches to learning will be relative and more successful for each person.
