On the 12th January 2011 the community of Ipswich endured one of the most significant flood events in living memory. Following a peak of 19.4m at the centre of Ipswich and with over 3,600 homes impacted, and thousands more families and individuals affected, the community of Ipswich rallied to support those who had lost so much in such a brief moment of time.

The Australian public, community organisations and business sector also answered the call to support those affected. Sony Music Australia, through the generosity of its artists, raised $2 million from the release of a special benefit compilation album, 'FLOOD RELIEF - Artists For The Flood Appeal'. In June 2011 the Sony Foundation announced a partnership with The Salvation Army to create a Youth and Community Centre to provide long-term support to the people of Goodna, and the surrounding suburbs in Ipswich. This Centre will provide a place where residents can find hope, support and a place to connects.

The Centre stands as a tribute to the resilience of the Ipswich community, as a testament to the generosity of the Australian public and as a foundation upon which the people of Goodna can look to the future with hope.

May you always stand as tall as a tree;

Be as strong as the rock Uluru;

As gentle and still as the morning mist;

Hold the warmth of the campfire in your heart;

And may the Creator Spirit always walk with you. Amen
