Woolworths Flood Appeal at checkouts

Published on
6 February 2012

From Tuesday, all Woolworths supermarkets will accept donations through the checkout for The Salvation Army / Woolworths Flood Appeal.

Director of Supermarkets, Tjeerd Jegen said: 'Woolworths customers gave generously to the Flood Appeal last year and we are asking them to donate again to help the victims in flood affected areas of New South Wales and Queensland.

'Woolworths is proud to again partner with The Salvation Army for this Appeal. They are already working in affected communities in evacuation centres, administering emergency financial support and counselling and helping to clean up where the flood waters have subsided.

'To kick off the appeal, Woolworths will make a foundation donation of $200,000. We are asking our customers to dig deep and give what they can, all donations will go a long way,' Mr Jegen said.

Public Relations Secretary for The Salvation Army, Major Bruce Harmer said: 'Woolworths have once again come on board to support Australians in a time of crisis and we cannot thank them enough for their continued support.

'The Salvation Army is committed to working in these flood affected areas for as long as it takes, both in the emergency and long-term recovery phases.

'The Salvation Army is working with families and individuals who have lost their homes, possessions and livelihoods. Your donation will help those affected to rebuild and recover after this disaster,' Major Harmer said.

Customers can donate at regular and self service checkouts, and through Woolworths Online, with the amount added to their transaction. All donations over $2 receive a tax acknowledgement on the shopper docket.
