The Salvation Army has released a new national report examining experiences of hardship, housing stress, unemployment, and life challenges including mental health and family violence of community members who accessed our Emergency Relief services.

More than 1400 participants completed the online survey.

Created by The Research and Outcome Measurement team, the report highlights how most respondents experienced financial hardship, many struggled to afford their rent, food and household bills, and were forced to make difficult choices or simply went without. Respondents reported they could not afford medical and healthcare, school activities for their children and faced barriers to find employment. Many people reported that mental health, isolation and loneliness and family violence was one of their greatest challenges in past 12 months.

The situation for many people who accessed The Salvation Army’s Emergency Relief services over the past twelve months remains grim, many worried about their financial future.
