Salvation Army Aged Care recently unveiled ‘The Garden of Salvation’ – a place where those whose lives ended in homelessness, isolation or extreme disadvantage can be honoured.

A number of past residents from The Salvation Army Aged Care centres, who had no family contact, will also be remembered in the garden.

The ‘Garden of Salvation’ at Northern Cemeteries in North Ryde in Sydney features a garden where ashes can be scattered, plus room on the memorial wall where individual plaques can be placed. Referrals will come from The Salvation Army’s vast network of support services.

Richard de Haast, National Director of The Salvation Army Aged Care says “When it comes to care for older people that come from a homeless background, or the financially disadvantaged, The Salvation Army is a specialist in this field. Our Salvos Funerals service already provides low-cost, compassionate care in this area and the Garden of Salvation is a natural extension of our care.”

Mr de Haast says “This project wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Northern Cemeteries and local business National Granite who made the wall.”
