Help is closer than you think

If you are experiencing financial hardship or are facing a crisis, contact us to find out how we can support you.

Depending on your situation, and what we have available, we may be able to provide you with vouchers for food, fuel or electricity.

We can also help with referrals to other support services such as addiction rehabilitation centres.

Our aim is to meet your immediate material needs, while helping you to meet your longer-term goals.

For all-year financial support, call us and a team member will have a compassionate conversation with you to understand your needs and let you know what help is available.  

When you phone us, you may be told you're eligible for a voucher and directed to visit our Doorways site for collection on Monday, 9am–1pm or Wednesday, 9–11am.

Financial counselling 

The Salvation Army’s free financial counselling service, Moneycare, is here to help you feel in control of your finances. We can work with you to manage your debt, develop new strategies or you may like to explore our free eBook. We can also point you in the right direction for a No Interest Loan.

TSA Employment Plus 

TSA Employment Plus 

In addition to Moneycare, TSA Employment Plus also offers their Parent Pathways program as well as their Inclusive Employment Program at Newcastle Salvos.

Parent Pathways offers free personalised support to eligible parents and carers of children up to 6 years of age.

Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) is the Australian Government’s new specialist disability employment program, replacing the Disability Employment Services (DES) model in November 2025.

Newcastle Salvos is open during these times, offering a place of peace, refuge, and safety. Come for a chat and a toastie.

You can also access the phone, internet and showers, or talk with our homelessness worker about your situation and needs.

During these times, our free shower and toilet facilities at Newcastle Salvos are available to you.

As part of this service, we can offer you a toiletry pack with soap, shampoo, and other essentials.

Monday, 12–2pm and Friday, 10am–12pm

For people experiencing homelessness, bring your clothes and linen in to Newcastle Salvos for a free wash, thanks to Orange Sky Australia.  

Food Market

Food Market

Wednesday, 11.30am–1.30pm 

Our food market at Newcastle Salvos helps you stretch your budget further. Anyone is welcome to come along to our Food Market.

Come collect a free basket of groceries with fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, and meat.

We offer other groceries for $1 and $2 to help with the cost of living.

Our Holy Grounds Coffee Van also serves free coffees out front during the Food Market opening times.

For over 15 years, we have been serving up food, fun and friendships — proving that meals really are better when shared together. 

Come along for a good, wholesome lunch prepared by our volunteers.  

REACH Homelessness

REACH Homelessness

Friday, 6.30–7.30pm

REACH Homelessness set up in front of our building to offer a safe space to receive food, connection and necessities. This includes takeaway breakfast packs, a place to enjoy a coffee, and a free meal.

Street Side Medics

Street Side Medics deliver healthcare for people experiencing homelessness. Medical services include a GP and nursing services.
