Brass Bands
Evangelists, hooligans and bodyguards
Salvation Army evangelists in Salisbury had been having trouble with local hooligans, so Fry and his sons had offered to act as bodyguards while the Salvationists sang in the marketplace.
As an afterthought, the Frys had brought their instruments to accompany the singing. In this unexpected way, the first Salvation Army band was born. Their immediate success led the Fry family to sell their business and become full-time musicians with The Salvation Army.
Over the next few years, brass bands sprang up all over the country. They became a way to introduce people to the message of Jesus and his love for all people.

Our brass band has a long history of musicianship, serving the Brisbane community and presenting the message of the gospel since 1885. Brass musicians are welcome to join rehearsal nights and to contribute to Sunday service.
Camberwell Brass Band
Tuesday rehearsal, 8-9.30pm and Sunday worship, 10-11.15am
People giving of their time and musical ability to support our ministry and mission. Participation in Sunday worship and other community events throughout the year.
Brass musicians in our community are welcome to join our brass band. Band practice is held weekly to rehearse for contributions to our Sunday service and the occasional community event.
