Volunteering with the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Youth Service

Contribute to a positive change

As a volunteer, within our Youth Development Program, you will have the opportunity to effect change in young people lives in a fun and supportive setting.

Volunteers will model healthy attitudes, positive relationships, encourage participation and explore cultural, educational and recreational activites with young people.

Shortlisting of applications

After the closing date, you will receive notification on whether or not you have been shortlisted for an interview.  Interview selection will be based on your experience, skill set and ability to demonstrate your suitability for the roles.  Due to the high number of applications we cannot provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants. 


You will be asked to come in for an interview to assess your suitability to the role.
You will be require to have at least 3 referees, on request.

Volunteer Induction & training

You will be notified if you have been successful in your application. Before commencing induction and training you will be required to undertake a police check as well as a working with children check. Once these documents have been received you will be involved in a two day training program, which focuses on working with asylum seekers.


Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one night per fortnight for 12 months.
