With donations of clothing, toiletries, household items and food coming in to the Springwood Salvos Store, following the devastating fire that destroyed nearly 200 homes, The Salvation Army is encouraging people in need to access the service.

Salvos Stores Western Sydney Area Manager Ted Greenaway asks that people take the bold step, and ask for help.

“I think those who have been affected by the fires are hesitant to come to us. Also, we are still getting the word out that we are here, and that we are able to assist people.”

The Springwood Salvos Store has so far assisted around 20 families seeking clothes, toiletries, and some household items.

Local businesses and members of the community have been generously donating clothing and goods, much of it brand-new.

The store has received so many donations, that they are now sending some to the nearby Minchinbury depot, to be sorted, before being re-distributed back to those in need in the fire-affected areas.

“Whilst we appreciate the donations, we really want to encourage people to come in and make use of the services we are providing,” says Mr Greenaway.

A number of students and their parents from one of the high schools which has been closed have been volunteering at the store, helping to sort donations.

“The team here at the Springwood Salvos Store are so grateful to all those who are volunteering their time during this bushfire disaster,” says Mr Greenaway. “We just want to help people in need –so please, come and see us!”
