Support at home

Helping you stay independent.

What is Support at Home?

Support at Home is an Australian Government aged care funding system. Under this system, the Government offers subsidised care to people aged 65 or older (or 50 or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people) and who need help with everyday tasks at home to stay living independently.

Eight funding levels (up to $78,000 per year)
Funding is offered in eight different levels to reflect the varying needs of older people. The highest level of support provides up to $78,000 each year.

Qurterly Budgets
Budgets are set and reviewed every three months, allowing for more regular adjustments if care needs change.

If you have a Home Care Package and need to transition to Support at Home:

  • Any money you haven’t spent can move across into the Support at Home system. You can keep using it until it runs out.
  • If you need products, equipment or home modifications, you must use these funds before applying for extra help through the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme.
  • Under Support at Home, you will receive your funding every three months. Any unspent funds up to $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly budget (whichever is more) will carry over into the next quarter. Any extra funds from Support at Home beyond that limit will not roll over, so it’s best to use your budget within the quarter.

If you are starting with Support at Home:

  • You will receive a set budget every three months.
  • Any unspent funds up to $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly budget (whichever is more) will carry over.
  • Any extra funds beyond that limit will not roll over, so it’s best to use your budget within the quarter.

A clear list of services you can access
The program outlines which services are available, so there is greater transparency about what support can be received.

Price caps on services (from ~July 2026)
Limits on service prices will be introduced by the government from approximately July 2026 to ensure consistency across providers and to help manage costs.

Lower fees with a maximum 10% care management cap
Providers can charge up to 10% of the budget for care management, meaning a larger share of funds goes toward direct services.

No package yet?
If you don’t have a government-subsidised care package or are waiting for one, we can still help you get started.

How are the costs calculated?

  1. Most of your care is covered by the government.
Based on your care level and the support you need, the government contributes towards the cost of your approved services. You can explore everything that’s included in our Pricing Brochure.
  2. You only make a co-contribution for the services you use.
    • All clinical care is fully covered, so there are no out-of-pocket costs.
    • For Independence and Everyday Living services, your contribution depends on your income and assets.
    • The government determines your exact contribution. For an estimate, use the Support at Home Fee Estimator on My Aged Care.
  3. A 10% Care Management Fee applies.
This fee is taken from the government subsidy to help us coordinate and deliver your care smoothly.

No Worse Off Principle

If you’re already receiving a Home Care Package (or were approved before 12 September 2024), your costs will not increase, and in some cases, they may even go down. There’s no need for a new assessment.

You’ll automatically shift to the Support at Home classification that best matches your current support. And when you’re ready for residential aged care, you’ll simply move across under the existing fee system.
