Liquor and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (exposure draft)

Published on
1 September 2024

In September 2024, The Salvation Army submitted a response the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General Office of the Deputy Director-General (the Department) in relation to the draft Liquor and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (the Bill).

As a leading provider of alcohol and other drug services in Queensland and across Australia, The Salvation Army is deeply committed to preventing and reducing harm from substance use and is broadly supportive of the Queensland Government increasing the regulation of remote ordering and delivery of liquor.

In this submission, The Salvation Army identified and drew attention to several areas requiring further consideration in the development of a bill to be tabled in the Parliament including, age verification at point of sale; delivery hours; safety requirements for delivery persons; prioritising the prevention of family and domestic violence; and restricting advertising and promotions.

The Salvation Army awaits the introduction of this Bill to Parliament and will continue to advocate for the prevention and reduction of harm from alcohol and other drugs nationally.
