15 September 2012

Manly Salvos 125

A large gathering of Salvos conducted open air religious services on the ocean beach in 1892.  Originally based in Raglan street the Salvation Army Manly had regular gatherings in what was then called Fuller’s paddock, located just below Kangaroo Hill.  In 1912 Comminsioner James Hay opened the new building at 59 Pittwater road the place where the Salvation Army ministry continues to this day.

On Spetember 16, 2012 the Salvation Army Manly will celebrate 100 years in their current location.  Today, Manly Corps operates from the New Life Community Church and Centre and provides holistic ministry and a broad range of services to the marginalised and disadvantaged on the Northern Beaches.

With an emphasis on community and belonging, the team at Manly Salvos values compassion, justice and love.  The ministry which, includes breackfast and lunch five days per week, tries to provide for individual needs.

Many volunteers and supporters help to keep the ministry alive.  Sunday September 16 gives us an opportunity to thank God for all that he has blessed us with.
