We provide a range of youth-focused and youth-informed responses including community outreach programs, individualsed counselling and support and residential options offering therapeutic recovery support.

We support young people having trouble accessing mainstream driving programs. Our driver training services include pre-learner classes, formal structured driver training, access to structured safe driving courses, mentoring support and more.

We believe remaining in education is important for building independence, reducing risks of homelessness, and providing future opportunities.
Our schools provide a flexible, safe and welcoming space for young people to re-engage with learning and achieve educational goals.

We help young people pursue future training goals and secure job opportunities.
Our services include employment orientation and work readiness programs, vocational education and training activities, social enterprise opportunities, and much more.

We place a strong focus on prevention and early intervention.
From housing options, outreach programs, life skills programs to holistic case management, our youth servies assist young people so no one is left in need.

To empower young people to enhance health, wellbeing, independence and resilience, our experienced practitioners deliver specialist one-on-one and group therapeutic responses.

We focus on diverting young people from the justice system and promoting skills for healthy relationships and positive health and wellbeing.
Our programs include restorative justice group conferencing and outreach case management connecting young people with family, education, training, employment, housing and community.
About Journey to Independence
Journey to Independence was developed through research and consultation with young people, partners and people across The Salvation Army. It works alongside established organisational frameworks, policies and procedures to support safe, consistent and high-quality practice across Youth Services.
At its heart, Journey to Independence brings a broad range of youth services together through one connected national approach, grounded in relationships, psychological awareness, participation, evidence and a shared commitment to young people's long-term outcomes.
Supporting and strengthening our practice
Journey to Independence is supported by ongoing workforce development, reflective practice, outcomes measurement and evaluation. Young people's voices and lived experience help us understand what is working, identify opportunities for improvement and continue strengthening the way we support young people.
We’ve developed a two-page overview of Journey to Independence that provides a snapshot of our national Model of Care and the key elements of our approach. For more detailed information about the Model of Care, please contact tsayouthservices@salvationarmy.org.au.
