For 2026, we have a course for everyone!
From complete novice to absolute expert, there is a course, distance, and time for you!!
The Paddle Together Against Poverty Event is not a race. However, you are encouraged to have a go and see what you can do in the two (2) hour paddle window. We have measured out 2.5, 5, and 10 km courses. We also have two course options depending on the weather; one will go north up the Derwent (in the event of northerly winds), the other heads south down the Derwent (in the event of southerly winds).
All courses start and finish at the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania (MYCT), using their boat ramps and jetty pontoons.
Northerly Course:
Launching from the MYCT paddlers will cross the bay and assemble on the water near The Esplanade, just north of the Shore St intersection.
Paddlers will depart the bay and turn north across the mouth of the bay and head towards the Lindisfarne Bay Port Beacon, passing on the river side of the marker. Paddlers then continue up the river, passing between the Beltana Point Beacon and shoreline. From here, paddlers are asked to stay between the shoreline and all beacons/moorings heading up the river.
Paddlers will continue around Beltana Point and up into Koomela Bay. The northern most mooring in Koomela Bay is the turn point for the 2.5km course. From Koomela Bay, paddlers continue around Limekiln Point, into Geilston Bay. For paddlers doing the 5km course, they can continue directly across the bay, and turn at the MYCT buoy on the northern side of Geilston Bay. Paddlers doing longer distances will continue into Geilston Bay, paddling between moored vessels and the shoreline all the way around the bay to the MYCT buoy where they will turn south again.
The return paddle follows the outbound path, staying between moorings and beacons until the Lindisfarne Bay Port Beacon. Paddlers choosing a 7.5km distance option can then return to the MYCT. 10km distance paddlers will pass on the river side of the Lindisfarne Bay Port Beacon, then paddle across to the mooring buoy off the end of Ronnie St where they will turn for the Tasman Bridge. Paddlers will pass under the second span, turn, pass under the first span, and return to the MYCT.

Southern Course:
Launching from the MYCT paddlers will cross the bay and assemble on the water near The Esplanade, just north of the Shore St intersection.
Paddlers will depart the bay and turn at the Lindisfarne Bay Starboard Beacon and head south towards the Tasman Bridge. Paddlers will pass under the first span of the bridge. The Tasman Bridge is the turning point for the 2.5km distance paddlers who can head back to the MYCT by passing under the second span of the Tasman Bridge and retracing the course to the MYCT. Paddlers continuing on will paddle through Montagu Bay, passing between all moored vessels and the shoreline. The last mooring in Montagu Bay is the turn point for paddlers doing the 5km distance. Paddlers doing longer distances will paddle out of Montagu Bay and continue south down the Derwent River turning into Kangaroo Bay at Rosny Point. Rosny Point is the turn point for people doing 7.5km distances. 10km paddlers will paddle into Kangaroo Bay, paddle to the mooring buoy off of the boat ramp, and then return to the MYCT retracing the route that they took on the outward journey.

Every school term, The Salvation Army Clarence City provides over 600 "grab and go" school lunch packs to secondary schools on Hobart's eastern shore. Over the years, we have seen the massive impact that these packs have in the lives of young people. In addition to giving a young person a meal when they otherwise would have had to go hungry, local schools tell us that these packs increase educational engagement by breaking down barriers that impact school attendance. Where students may have not attended school or may have left school because they did not have anything to eat, now they are able to remain at school and continue to attend class.
We have been told by a number of schools that students have been able to see through their secondary education because of these packs.
Each "grab and go" lunch pack provided by The Salvation Army Clarence City costs approximately $7.00 and is packed and delivered by volunteers.
Your kind and generous donation will help a young person have a meal and be more engaged in their education.
